AT&T May Be Getting Its First Android Phone in Q3

AT&T will be releasing a smartphone running Android in the next few months, if an unconfirmed report is correct. This will apparently be this carrier's first model running Google's operating system.

HTC has scheduled an announcement on June 24 in London where it will unveil its next Android-based smartphones, according to the Economic Daily News. Two models will be on display for the first time: the Hero and the Memphis.

Images of both models leaked out earlier this year, and show that the Hero will have a tablet shape with a pronounced "chin", while the Memphis will have a  landscape-oriented sliding keyboard.

AT&T will reportedly introduce this second device during the third quarter of this year, and it will be exclusively available from this carrier into early 2010. A picture of this model with AT&T's logo on it recently surfaced.

Holding Out for a Hero
Although the HTC Hero has not yet been announced, the Web has been buzzing with images of its redesigned user interface.

HTC's original model, sold as the T-Mobile G1, has a "generic" version of Android. The follow-up will use one -- code-named Rosie -- that has been much more heavily customized. It's not known if the HTC Memphis will have this same UI.

Also not known yet is which carriers will be offering the Hero, though T-Mobile is a possibility. This may be cleared up on June 24, if not before.
