Samsung Omnia2 May Have a Large, High-Resolution OLED Display

The original Samsung Omnia turned heads last year, and a follow-up model may do so even more. The Omnia2 will allegedly be the first Windows phone with a WVGA Touchscreen that's not a standard LED but is rather a new type: an active-matrix OLED display.

This 3.7-inch resistive screen will be the focus of this device, but it will also include a number of other high-end features, like an 8.1 megapixel camera with flash and the ability to record VGA video at 30 fps. It will also be able to play DivX/XViD movies.

According to details that have leaked out ahead of an official announcement, the Samsung Omnia2 will run Windows Mobile 6.1 on a Qualcomm processor. and use Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, which appears on many of its high-end models.

Its wireless capabilities will include mobile broadband, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, while this smartphone will also sport a microSD memory card slot and GPS receiver.

The first details on the Omnia2 come from a Lithuanian retailer, who has removed this device from its website. Still, it could be announced as early as next week, as Samsung has promised to unveil at least one new phone at an event on June 15.

UPDATE: A video of this device in action has appeared on YouTube. Performance is noticeably poor, likely a sign that the software of this device is not yet ready for release.
