Code-Name for Third webOS Model Revealed

Earlier this week, the code-name for a second model running Palm's webOS was discovered in the system software for the Palm Pre, and this same source has now revealed a third code-name.

Developers digging around in the webOS initially turned up references to the Castle and the Pixie, which are almost certainly the code-names for the Palm Pre and the Palm Eos. Now, the code-divers have found a mention of another model: the Zepfloyd.

The Eos/Pixie is expected to debut later this year, but at this point nothing is known about the Zepfloyd.

The Eos is supposed to be heading to AT&T and Sprint, which means there will be both GSM and CDMA versions of this phone. It's possible the two code-names reference to these different versions. In addition, Verizon is expected to release a version of the Pre in January, and Zepfloyd could be the code-name for this model.

The webOS is the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. It's a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The  first device running it, the Palm Pre, debuted from Sprint last weekend. A followup, the Palm Eos is rumored to be on the market later this year.

As mentioned earlier, Verizon is reportedly scheduled to release the Pre in January of 2010.
