Yesterday's early peek of the Nokia E72 is now an official announcement. This smartphone was unveiled by Nokia early Monday morning, and a number of details that were only assumed before have now been verified.
Emphasis on Communication
The E72 will continue the standard set by the E71, E71x, and E63 of being an email and texting-oriented device. This Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2 (v3.2) phone is going to feature an advanced version of the Nokia Messaging application which features personal and corporate email, as well as instant messaging support.
It won't deveate from the stainless steel and aluminum build with 10mm thick form factor of the original E71 except in colors available -- black, silver, and gold -- and the design of the front navigation buttons.
The Nokia E72's directional pad will actually be optical navigation pad to aid in scrolling around the screen and through longer messages.
In addition, voice calling will be enhanced with a new active-noise cancellation feature.
Other Hardware and Software Features
Besides the aforementioned features, the E72 will also have:
Pricing and Availability
The Nokia E72 will begin shipping in Europe in late Q3 with a retail price of about 350 Euros.
There will be a North American variant of this model (as there is for the Nokia E71), but pricing and availability information for that model has not been released yet.
