Samsung Omnia II On Its Way to Verizon

Verizon Wireless announced today that it will release the Samsung Omnia II later this year. This Windows phone will sport a large, high-resolution AM-OLED display and a number of other advanced features.

Obviously, this model will replace the original Samsung Omnia in Verizon's product line up, and it will boast a number of upgraded features

It will have a tablet shape, with its 3.7-inch, WVGA (800 by 480) touchscreen as its focus. The current model has a smaller, lower-resolution touchscreen.

The Omnia II will ship with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro will be released later. On top of this will be the second version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, which has been developed to make smartphones easy to control with a fingertip.

This device will have Verizon's fastest version of mobile broadband: EV-DO Rev. A. At this point, there's no word on Wi-Fi support.

In addition, this version will have a 5 MPx camera, Opera Mobile 9.5, and more.

Exactly when Verizon is going to release the Samsung Omnia II is not yet clear. No pricing information is currently available, either.

A GSM Version, Too
In addition to the CDMA version for Verizon, Samsung has also unveiled an alternate Omnia II for GSM carriers.

This will sport 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 5.76 Mbps HSUPA,  and Wi-Fi. This version will also offer users up to 48 GB of storage.

Like the CDMA one, there's currently no word on when this version of the Samsung Omnia II will debut.
