New Images Confirm HTC Magic Coming to T-Mobile USA

Several unconfirmed reports have indicated that T-Mobile USA is going to release a version of the HTC Magic in the near future, and a new set of pictures goes a long way toward confirming this.

This Android-based device has the code-name of Sapphire, but it's possibly better known by the name it debuted under in Europe: the Magic. In the U.S. it will supposedly be called the T-Mobile myTouch 3G.

A set of images that leaked out today clearly show it bearing the logo of T-Mobile USA, which is different from the European one.

Earlier this month, this carrier committed to offering its second smartphone running Google's Android OS in the near future. Although it hasn't yet revealed what this will be, all the rumors point to the myTouch 3G.

This model will strongly resembles its predecessor, but lack the T-Mobile G1's hardware keyboard.

The myTouch 3G will run Google's Android 1.5 on 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, and have 192 MB of RAM. This device will come with the standard suite of Android software, much of which ties in to Google's online services, like Gmail and Google Maps.

This device will have a 3.2-inch touch-sensitive screen with a 320x480 (HVGA) resolution. As it will lack a hardware keyboard, text and numbers will be entered on-screen.

It will be a quad-band GSM phone with support for 3G (UMTS/HSDPA). In addition, it will have Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR.

A Band of Four
According to unconfirmed reports, the myTouch 3G will be just the first of four Android-based smartphones coming to T-Mobile USA by the end of 2009. The other three are expected to debut this fall.

This carrier will reportedly introduce two models from Samsung running Google's mobile OS -- one with a keyboard and one without -- and the last will be Motorola's first Android-based phone, which will have a sliding keyboard.
