Palm Pre May Debut in Europe Early this Fall

The Palm Pre is available in he U.S., but Europe is still waiting for its chance at the first webOS-based smartphone. The wait won't will be over in a few months, if an unconfirmed report is correct.

The eastern-European distributor I.R.I.S. says that the Pre will be available across Europe by the end of September.

Pricing will depend on the carriers offering it, but Palm's latest will supposedly go for about 400 EURO ($550) without a contract.

According to information that leaked out this spring, the Pre will be offered exclusively in the U.K., Spain, and Latin America by the subsidiaries of Telefónica. It will available through Movistar in all three areas, while O2 will also carry it in the U.K.

An Overview of the Palm Pre and the webOS
The Palm Pre uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The Pre itself features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display. This device is also equipped with 8 GB of on-board Storage (7 GB available to users), Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash. 

The GSM version for Europe and Latin America is expected to have the 3G standard HSDPA.

This smartphone debuted first from Sprint, who added its mobile broadband service EV-DO Rev. A.  A Canadian version from Bell Mobility will be released later this year.
