LG Prepping Three Android Phones this Year

LG plans to launch three models running Google's Android by the end of this year as part of its plan to grab more of the world's mobile phone market.

The first of these devices should be released during the third quarter, and all three are expected to be out by the end of 2009. These will be followed by additional devices next year.

LG did not reveal any details on these upcoming smartphones.

The company hopes that these and other products will give it 10% of the global handset market this year.

On the Android Bandwagon
LG is one of an array of companies large and small that are hard at work on devices running Google's operating system. While only HTC has released Android-based phones, the list of companies developing models includes Samsung, Motorola, Dell, Asus, Sony, Sony-Ericsson, Acer, Garmin, HP, Panasonic, and more.

T-Mobile and Vodafone launched the first HTC products with Android, but others are expected to follow suit. In the U.S. this includes AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.
