Apple has announced that it had sold over one million iPhone 3G S models by Sunday, June 21, the third day after its launch.
This is well ahead of analysts' expectations. The bad economy and the fact that the new model isn't a dramatic improvement over its predecessor caused some to expect tepid demand. However, the new iPhone 3G S had as strong a launch as its predecessor.
In addition, six million customers downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 upgrade in the first five days after its release. This is the upgraded system software for all Apple's smartphones and the iPod touch, too.
More about the iPhone 3G S
As mentioned earlier, Apple's third-generation smartphone is an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary model. Its feature set is improved, but not dramatically so.
The "S" is for "speed," and the iPhone 3G S has a faster processor and a quicker version of 3G than its predecessor.
In addition, this model has twice the Storage capacity, support for recording and editing video, and a handful of other features, like MMS support. Still, iPhone 3G S has much in common with the current version. The outward appearance isn't significantly different, and the screen resolution remains the same.
This phone is available in either a black or a white casing, and there are two versions: a 16 GB for $200, while a 32 GB model goes for $300, with a two-year contract.
