The Toshiba TG01 has debuted in a couple of countries, but probably not enough for those eager to get their hands on this high-end Windows phone.
In a year that will see the release a number of models with large, high-resolution screens, the TG01 will still stand out thanks to its 4.1-inch, WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) resistive touchscreen.
This device also raises the bar in a second area: it's the first to run Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro on 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Now in Asia and Europe
In the last few days, this Toshiba smartphone has been released in Japan by DoCoMo and Spain by Movistar.
The Spanish version has HSPA mobile broadband (7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 2 Mbps HSUPA), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
More about the Toshiba TG01
Instead of the standard Windows Mobile user interface, this smartphone runs a 3D one created by its manufacturer.
The large display doesn't leave room for a D-pad, but this model include an on-screen virtual trackpad.
It comes with Microsoft's standard suite of entertainment and productivity software, and a GPS receiver.
Despite all its built-in features, the TG01 is just under a centimeter thick, or 0.39 inches.
At this point, it's not known where else the Toshiba TG01 will be released.
