The First Details Emerge on webOS 1.1

Palm, Inc. has released several small updates for the webOS, and is apparently now working on a more significant new version of the operating system for the Palm Pre.

So far, all the known improvements in webOS 1.1 will supposedly be related to better support for Exchange ActiveSync.

For example, it will bring support for remote wipe, which will allow an IT manager to erase everything on a webOS-based device if it gets lost or stolen.

In addition, it will allow users to set a password to access the device, and wipe all the data from it if an authorized persoan makes too many attempts to guess the password.

webOS 1.1 is reportedly scheduled for release in the next 30 days. 

An Overview of the webOS
Palm's webOS is the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

This OS debuted on the Palm Pre, which features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display. This device is also equipped with 8 GB of on-board Storage (7 GB available to users), Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash. 

A second webOS-based model, the Palm Eos, is rumored to be on the docket for this fall.
