Nokia N86 8MP Will Soon Debut in the U.S.

After debuting in Europe earlier this summer, Nokia has promised to introduce the Nokia N86 8MP in the United States in the coming weeks. A dual-slider model, this is the replacement to the N85 in this company's lineup, and features its first use of an 8 megapixel camera.

Nokia has announced that this mobile will be available for $558 through Nokia Flagship Stores and NokiaUSA.com in the coming weeks.

N86 8MP Overview
The N86 8MP is a Symbian S60 Feature Pack 2 (v3.2) model. The dual slider design is flanked by a numerical keypad at the bottom and media/game-centric buttons at the top.

It includes an AM-OLED screen which displays at QVGA (320 by 240 pixel) resolution.

The highlight of this smartphone is its 8 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. This uses a feature called variable aperture to collect more light and offer a better quality image. The camera is also able to record VGA video at 30 fps.

In addition, it has photo management software, full sync capability with a PC, and TV-out support for slide shows.

The N86 8MP comes with 8 GB of flash memory built in, and also has a slot for supporting microSDHC cards up to 16 GB.

On the wireless side, this is a quad-band GSM device. It has support for UMTS/HSDPA, and there are different variants of the device for European and North American GSM markets. The 1700 MHz frequency band is not supported in any version of this model though, which means no 3G for T-Mobile customers.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR are also included, as well as a GPS receiver and a built-in compass.

On the software side, Ovi Maps, a built-in FM transmitter, Mail for Exchange support, and default integration with Nokia's Ovi Contacts (IM and presence enabled address book) are included. Other software can be downloaded through Nokia's Ovi Store which is also included on the device.
