More Than Half of HTC's 2010 Models Will Run Android

HTC built its business making Windows Mobile smartphones, but in the future intends increase the number of models it makes running a rival -- Google's Android OS.

It comes as no surprise that HTC is interested in Android -- the company has already released three models with this operating system, and has several more in the pipeline.

But a new report says that going forward it will put even more effort into Android, with over half its models set for release next year based on this platform. Currently, about 30% of its products run Google's OS.

A Multi-OS Strategy
This doesn't mean that HTC is giving up on Windows Mobile. Company executives have said repeatedly that they intend to keep offering devices with Microsoft's smartphone platform, as well as Android-powered ones.

Jon French, HTC's manager for UK and Ireland, recently told Mobile News, "We will not be putting more focus on our Android-based phones. Windows Mobile devices such as the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 are receiving just as much focus. It's so important to concentrate on both heavily as handsets such as the Touch Pro2 and Magic appeal to two very different types of consumers."
