Sprint CEO Says Android is ''Ready for Prime Time''

In October of last year, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse made a well-publicised remark that Google's Android OS was not good enough yet to go on a device from his company.

It's been nine months since that comment was made, and in that time Android has had one major update and a second is expected any day now. These have been enough to satisfy Hesse, who said today, "now it's ready for prime time."

He went on to promise that Sprint will release at least one smartphone running Google's OS before the end of this year.

Sprint + Samsung + Android
Sprint hasn't yet revealed any of the details on its first Android-based model, but Samsung hasn't been quite so reticent.

Early this year, a Samsung spokesperson revealed that it was making Sprint's upcoming Android model, but didn't reveal any details other than it will have a touchscreen.

Samsung is rumored to be working on models with a variety of designs, both with and without sliding QWERTY keyboards. It's not known yet which option Sprint will pick.
