HP's Next iPAQ Smartphone Coming to AT&T

HP hasn't yet announced the HP iPAQ K3 Obsidian, but a fresh set of images show this upcoming Windows phone in all its glory -- including a prominently-placed AT&T logo.

Combined with a spec sheet that leaked out earlier this year, a fairly complete overview of this model has emerged.

The Obsidian will supposedly have a popular design for smartphones: a tablet shape with a keyboard fixed below a landscape-oriented display. In this case, the display will be a 2.5-inch AM-OLED touchscreen with a QVGA resolution.

It will reportedly debut with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro running on a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor with 256 MB of RAM.

Like all Windows phones, it should be bundled with Microsoft's suite of productivity and entertainment software.

This HP model will be a quad-band phone with AT&T's 3G mobile broadband service, as well as  Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth.

Other features will allegedly include a GPS receiver, 3.2 megapixel camera, and a microSD memory card slot.

The iPAQ K3 Obsidian is expected to debut from AT&T in November, but pricing is unknown at this time.

HP was once a powerhouse in the PDA market, but has been much less successful with its smartphone offerings,

In the past few years, this company has released a scattering of Windows Mobile-based devices, few of which were picked up by wireless carriers. If the iPAQ K3 Obsidian really is on it's way to AT&T, then it will be a big win for this company, and could be a sign that it's back in the game.
