It's official, the Palm Pre is scheduled to debut in Canada on August 27. This will be the first time Palm's latest smartphone has been released outside of the U.S.
Canada's Bell Mobility first revealed that it would be offering this device back in May, and has just now finally gotten specific about when the launch will be.
Pricing was also announced today: $200 CAD (on a three-year contract with a minimum 500MB data plan).
This who are eager to get their hands on the first webOS-based device can pre-order it online now at www.bell.ca/pre, at Bell stores and at Best Buy, Future Shop, The Telephone Booth/La Cabine Téléphonique, WIRELESS etc. and Wireless Wave.
An Overview of the Palm Pre and the webOS
The Palm Pre uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.
The Pre itself features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display. This device is also equipped with 8 GB of on-board storage (7 GB available to users), Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.
This smartphone debuted first from Sprint back in June, who added its mobile broadband service EV-DO Rev. A.
This device will also be available in Europe in time for the holidays. The GSM version for Europe and Latin America is expected to have the 3G standard HSDPA.
