Apple has an event scheduled for next month, and rumors and speculation are flying about exactly what will be unveiled. A new report says there's one item that can be scratched off the list: this company's much-rumored tablet.
There have been persistent reports from many reliable sources saying that Apple intends to release a tablet-shaped computer that will be something of a merger of an iPhone and a Mac notebook.
The company supposedly has been trying to get this device on the market in time for the holiday shopping season, but a new report makes this less likely. Citing "very reliable sources familiar with the product", The Loop says that Apple will release its tablet PC in 2010.
The event scheduled for September is going to be focused on music, and will only be for Apple devices that will be on the market by the end of this year.
A Sketchy Overview of the Apple Tablet
Despite all the leaks on this product, details are a bit sketchy. Still, many of features of this tablet have emerged.
In addition to a 10-inch touchscreen, it will supposedly have wireless access to the Internet, including iTunes. This will allow users to download music and also video to play on the relatively large display. In addition, it's expected to function as an ebook reader.
All of the features one would expect in a mobile computer will supposedly also be included: web browser, email software, etc.
Apple's tablet computer will almost certainly have Wi-Fi. but previous reports have said that it may also include wireless data service from Verizon's mobile broadband network.
iPhone or OS X?
None of the unconfirmed reports can answer a fundamental question on this computer: what operating system will it run?
Some earlier rumors indicate that Apple's UMPC will run a version of the iPhones OS, but other say it will be a hybrid of the iPhone and Mac OS X.
