Verizon's version of the HTC Whitestone has been approved by the FCC, a major milestone on the way to release. This device -- which will reportedly be sold under the name Verizon XV6975 -- will be a high-end tablet-shaped smartphone with a 3.6-inch, WVGA touchscreen.
The documents on the FCC website include a confidentiality request, so they reveal little new information about this upcoming model.
Still, they do confirm that this model will support CDMA networks and the EV-DO standard. The XV6975 will supposedly be a worldphone, able to access both CDMA and GSM networks, but these documents don't confirm this.
Several images of this device have leaked out in recent weeks, including the one at left. HTC's FCC filing doesn't include any useful pictures, though.
An Overview of the HTC Whitestone
The Whitestone will supposedly be the successor to the HTC Touch HD, and will have much in common with its predecessor, including a WVGA (800 x 480) screen, mobile broadband, and a tablet design.
Other features of this upcoming smartphone will include Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, 256 MB of RAM, 528 MHz processor, 5 MPx camera, and GPS. It will have a focus on multimedia, and include a small stand so it can hold itself upright when playing movies (see here).
Coming Soon
This high-end model may may be in customer hands as early as next month; A recent unconfirmed report indicated that launch is now expected to happen in September or October.
The price for the Verizon XV6975 is not yet known.
