Further expanding its touchscreen device portfolio, Nokia has announced the 5800 Navigation Edition. This tailored version of the 5800 XpressMusic will center around the navigational abilities of the current model, and include a lifetime license for Nokia's Ovi Maps.
About the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition (NE)
In terms of hardware, this device won't differ much from the original 5800XM except in color. The 5800NE will feature a silver, two-tone look.
The 640 by 360 pixel touchscreen is going to remain, as will the 3.2 MPx digital camera, 1320 mAh battery, GPS, and Symbian S60v5 operating system.
The software side of the 5800NE will be accented by the pre-installation of Ovi Maps 3 and a lifetime license for its voice-guided Drive and Walk features. Support for the Ovi Store and other third-party downloadable software will ensure that the 5800NE can interact with the same locations that it displays on-screen.
Due to its orientation as a navigation device, it is going to come with an in-box car charger and Nokia car kit for use in auto/boat scenarios.
Pricing & Availability
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is expected to go on sale in Europe sometime in Q3 of this year.
Its estimated to cost about 285 Euros before any taxes and subsidies.
At this time, there is no word of this model appearing in a North American 3G version.
