LG Promises 13 Windows Mobile Phones by the End of Next Year

LG clearly intends to become a big player in the Windows Mobile market. Today it promised to release three smartphones running Microsoft's operating system in the next few weeks, and ten more by the end of 2010.

The company only gave specifics on one of the three models it intends to release soon. The LG-GW550 will debut with Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a front-facing QWERTY keypad, dual cameras, and other business-centric features.

Less is known about the other models, but like the GW550, they will run the latest version of Windows Mobile.

LG did say that one of them will be a full touchscreen device, while the other will be a touch slider with QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the GW550, these two will run Windows Mobile Pro with LG's own S-Class user interface on top.

Coming Next Month
Microsoft announced this week that the first devices running the new version of its mobile operating system would debut on October 6, and LG's name was listed as being part of the launch.

And LG promised that its three models will be introduced initially for "early adopter" customers in Europe, the United States, and Asia before being made available globally.

What about 2010?
Even less is known about LG's plans for next year, aside from the fact that it will release ten models running Windows Mobile.

Given the timing, at least some of these are likely to run Windows Mobile 7, which is reportedly scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2010.
