Nokia N900 Now Available for Pre-Order

Nokia has begun taking pre-orders in the U.S. for its first Linux-based smartphone, the Nokia N900. This model will have a large, high-resolution screen, a sliding keyboard, and a variety of high-end features.

It was announced last week, but the a U.S. release wasn't confirmed at that time. There is no room doubt now, as Nokia USA has posted the device on its website with a price of $650 for the unlocked version. This includes a free Bluetooth headset.

Buying the unlocked version directly from Nokia may not be the only option: there are unconfirmed reports that the N900 will be offered by T-Mobile USA.

This smartphone is scheduled to be released in October. In Europe, it will sell for EUR 500, excluding sales taxes and subsidies.

An Overview of the Nokia N900
This upcoming model will have the same general shape as Nokia's earlier Internet Tablets: a slider with a large WVGA touchscreen and a landscape-oriented keyboard.

It will run a new version of Nokia's open-source Linux-based operating system, Maemo 5, on an ARM Cortex-A8 processor. It will have up to 1 GB of application memory and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration.

This Nokia model  will include a web browser based on Mozilla technology, and full Adobe Flash 9.4 support.

The Nokia N900 will have 32 GB of storage, which is going to be expandable up to 48 GB via a microSD card.

This mobile Internet device will be a GSM phone with HSPA 3G. It will also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

In addition, it is going to have a 5 MPx camera and Carl Zeiss optics
