HTC Tattoo Will Be a Low-Cost Android Smartphone

The HTC Tattoo has just been unveiled. This upcoming smartphone will run Google's Android OS, and is expected to be available next month at an entry-level price.

To reduce the cost of this model, it will be the first Android-based device with a 2.8-inch QVGA (240 by 320 pixel) resistive touchscreen. Previous ones have all used HVGA capacitive displays.

Other than this though, the Tattoo (AKA the HTC Click) will have a fairly average feature set, not too stripped down.

It will run an as-yet undisclosed version of Google operating system on a 528 MHz processor and have 256 MB of RAM.

Rather than the standard user interface it will run HTC Sense, a proprietary UI. It will still include the standard suite of software, including Google Maps, search, Google Mail, and the Android Market.

Coming to Europe
The Tattoo will be released in Europe in October, and this quad-band GSM phone will launch with the 3G frequencies used on that continent. The initial version will lack support for N. American 3G.

It will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, however, and a GPS receiver.

Other Features
In addition, this smartphone will have a 3.2 MPx camera, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a microSD memory card.

Overall, this device will be 4.17 by 2.17 by 0.55 inches (106 x 55.2 x 14 mm).

HTC says its 1100 mAh battery will be good for up to 390 minutes  of talk time or 520 hours  of stand-by time.

Pricing?
As mentioned earlier, the HTC Tattoo is expected to sell at an entry-level price, though the exact cost will be up to the carriers that offer it.
