Windows Mobile 6.5 Coming to HTC 's Latest Models, but What About the Older Ones?

It probably won't surprise anyone that HTC is promising to release upgrades to Windows Mobile 6.5 for its most recent smartphones. But the question remains open about slightly older models offered by this company.

The HTC Touch Pro2, Touch Diamond2, and Snap will definitely get upgrades to v6.5 sometime after this debuts next month.

This promise was made by Lars Christian Weisswange, Regional Director of HTC for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. However, he didn't get specific about timing.

Microsoft actually unveiled the new version of its mobile operating system months ago, and the first devices running it will debut on October 6. It's possible the upgrades for current models will be available shortly thereafter.

Of course, it's possible Weisswange was just talking about the European versions of these smartphones. HTC would have to develop different versions of the upgrades for the U.S. carriers.

What The Original Touch Pro and Touch Diamond?
Weisswange did not say anything about the HTC Windows phones that debuted last year, like the original Touch Pro and Touch Diamond. These devices are still on sale from several wireless carriers.

There's has been no word on whether these will be getting official operating system upgrades.
