Palm Pixi Coming To Sprint for the Holidays

Palm has just taken the wraps off the second WebOS-powered smartphone, the Palm Palm Pixi. This model will be a less expensive option than the current Palm Pre.

It will also have a different design from the current model: a tablet with a small keyboard fixed below its 2.6-inch, 320-by-400-pixel capacitive display.

The Pixi will be exclusively available from Sprint, whose version will include EV-DO mobile broadband. It will also have Bluetooth, but not Wi-Fi.

Previous rumors about this smartphone indicated that it would have 4 GB of built-in storage, but it will actually have twice that much: 8 GB.

In addition, it will have a built-in GPS receiver.

webOS Powered
As mentioned earlier, the Palm Pixi will be the second model running Palm's webOS, a multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft Exchange.

Palm has also just announced that by the time this device is available, the WebOS will have added support for LinkedIn and Yahoo.

It will come with a highly-capable web browser, email software, and multimedia player. Additional third-party applications will also be available.

Pricing and Availability?
Despite today's announcement, the Palm Pixi isn't being released today, or even apparently very soon. All Palm has said  is that it will be released exclusively by Sprint " in time for the holidays."

The company also isn't getting specific about price.

The Pixi won't replace the Pre in Sprint's product lineup -- rather it will be a second option.
