Palm Pre's European Debut Scheduled for Tomorrow

The Palm Pre will make its European debut on Tuesday, finally giving people in the U.K. a chance to try out the WebOS.

Journalists have been invited to an event which will feature the "UK launch of the 'iPhone killer' Palm Pre".

A Launch? Maybe (NOT)
The invitation seems to be saying that this smartphone will be released tomorrow, but that's not guaranteed. Earlier unconfirmed reports indicate that the Palm Pre won't debut in the U.K. until the end of October.

UPDATE: Palm's PR firm in the U.K. has responded to this article with an email that says, in part, "Whilst the product will be display, Palm and O2 have not announced any further details as to Pre's availability in the UK beyond confirming that it will be available before Christmas."

It is supposedly going to be released exclusively in this country by O2. There's no word yet on pricing.

A New Version
So far, both versions of the Pre that have been released have used the CDMA wireless networking standard, with EV-DO mobile broadband.

The version on its way to O2 will be the first GSM one, and is expected to have the 3G standard HSDPA.

An Overview of the Palm Pre and the webOS
The Palm Pre uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The WebOS includes an on-device app store, and a growing collection of third-party software is available.

The Pre itself features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display. This device is also equipped with 8 GB of on-board storage (7 GB available to users), Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.

The exclusive U.S. provider of this smartphone is Sprint, who has added its mobile broadband service EV-DO Rev. A. It's also available from Bell Canada, who also uses the CDMA standard, so its version has EV-DO as well.
