Palm's webOS 1.2 Expected Later this Week

A new version of the webOS is reportedly going to be introduced in a few days, bringing support for paid third-party software, enhancements to the web browser and email apps, and other improvements to the Palm Pre.

A few weeks ago, Palm, Inc. accidentally released an early version of webOS 1.2 to a few Pre users. Since that time, people have been combing through this upcoming version looking for changes.

LED notifications and remote application removal were the first to be noticed (for more info, read this article).

Since that time, many more enhancements have been found, including the ability to copy text and images on web pages. The browser will also allow users to easily share images and download files.

The email software in webOS 1.2 will reportedly allow users to filter their emails and directly play WAV files sent to them.

In addition, the new version of the Palm Pre's system software is expected to re-enable support for iTunes synchronization, which Apple removed when it released the latest version of this desktop media software.

Paid Apps
Palm has made no secret that its is working to add for-pay third-party applications to the on-device App Catalog, and this feature will supposedly debut with this OS update. A wave of additional software is anticipated too, as until now only free apps could be listed on this store.

According to unconfirmed reports, Palm will start sending webOS 1.2 directly to Pre units later this week.
