Despite last week's rumor to the contrary, many source agree that the Verizon will begin offering the Palm Pre early next year. A new report even says this will be an enhanced version, with a better screen and more memory.

Leaked information indicates that Verizon's inventory system contains listings for the Palm P101VZW and Palm P121VZW. The first of these is almost certainly this carrier's version of the Pre, as Sprint's designation for this device is P100. But the second one is unknown. This could easily be the designation for an upgraded version of this webOS-based smartphone.

According to an unconfirmed report in the Examiner, this model will have a slightly larger screen than the current Pre, which has a 3.1-inch one.

In addition, it will supposedly have more built-in storage than the the original, which has 8 GB. This source even raised the possibility of a microSD card slot.

The P121VZW is unlikely to be a version of the Palm Pixi, as that is reportedly going to have C40 as its SKU.

An Overview of the Palm Pre and the webOS
The Palm Pre uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The webOS includes an on-device app store, and a growing collection of third-party software is available.

The exclusive U.S. provider of this smartphone is Sprint, who has added its mobile broadband service EV-DO Rev. A. It's also available from Bell Canada, who also uses the CDMA standard, so its version has EV-DO as well. Verizon is another CDMA carrier, it its version is expected to have this same type of mobile broadband.

Next month, the Palm Pre will debut in Europe from O2.
