The long-awaited replacement for the Samsung Omnia will supposedly be released by Verizon in about two weeks. This carrier first announced plans to offer this Windows phone in June.
Windows Mobile 6.5 will debut on several models next week, but the Omnia II apparently won't be one of them. Instead, it will supposedly launch with the current version of the operating system -- 6.1 -- and an upgrade will be released at a later date.
The price Veriizon plans to charge for this smartphone remains a mystery.
An Overview of the Samsung Omnia II
This smartphone will will boast a number of enhancments over the original version.
It will still have a tablet shape, but with a 3.7-inch, WVGA (800 by 480), AM-OLED touchscreen. The current model has a smaller, lower-resolution touchscreen.
On top of Windows Mobile will be the second version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, which has been developed to make smartphones easy to control with a fingertip.
This device will have Verizon's fastest version of mobile broadband: EV-DO Rev. A. At this point, there's no word on Wi-Fi support.
In addition, this version will have a 5 MPx camera, Opera Mobile 9.5, and more.
