There can be no doubt that Verizon is going to release the Samsung Omnia II -- this Windows phone with the Verizon logo on it was on public display at last week's CTIA tradeshow. Despite this, the release date remains a mystery.
According to the latest rumor, this carrier will introduce the long-awaited replacement for the original Omnia on Sunday, Nov. 1. The previous rumor said the debut would be around the middle of this month.
The price Verizon plans to charge for this smartphone remains unknown.
An Overview of the Samsung Omnia II
This smartphone will will boast a number of enhancements over the original version.
It will still have a tablet shape, but with a 3.7-inch, WVGA (800 by 480), AM-OLED touchscreen. The current model has a smaller, lower-resolution touchscreen.
Not everything will be improved. The Omnia II will launch with Windows Mobile 6.1, and an upgrade the the latest version -- 6.5 -- will be released at a later date.
On top of Windows Mobile will be the second version of Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, which has been developed to make smartphones easy to control with a fingertip.
This device will have Verizon's fastest version of mobile broadband: EV-DO Rev. A.
In addition, the Samsung Omnia II will have a 5 MPx camera, Opera Mobile 9.5, and more.
