Details on Verizon's Second Android Phone Leak Out

Verizon is running TV ads for the Motorola Droid, its first Android smartphone, but this wireless carrier hasn't yet begun to talk about it second model running Google's OS. Nevertheless, a great deal of information on this upcoming smartphone has already leaked out.

The official name for this device hasn't slipped out yet, but it reportedly has the code-name Motorola Calgary.

While the Droid is expected to be a high-end model, the Calgary will be more mid-range, or possibly even entry level.

Like its big brother, it will be a slider, with a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard. It will apparently have a smaller, lower-resolution screen than the Droid.

On the Calgary's front will be three touch-sensitive buttons and an optical trackpad, rather than a trackball or D-pad.

It will supposedly run Google's Android OS, and -- unlike the Droid -- include Motorola Blur, new Android app that lets users synchronize data with a variety of social networking and email services, and also access them from the homescreen.

The Droid will debut with Android 2.0, and it's possible the Calgary will too. Like virtually all smartphones running this OS, it will come with a suite of entertainment and productivity software, much of which ties in to Google's free services. It also offers access to thousands of third-party software titles.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Calgary will be able to connect to Verizon's mobile broadband network, plus it will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

It is also allegedly going to have a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm headset jack, a GPS receiver, and a microSD memory car slot.

Pricing & Availability
Verizon may release the Motorola Calgary before the end of this year, though nothing more specific about timing is known.

Aside from the expectation that it will almost certainly cost less than the Motorola Droid, the price for this second Android-powered model is unknown.
