Research in Motion has released an operating system upgrade for Verizon's version of the original BlackBerry Storm. This brings a number of improvements to the first touchscreen-oriented smartphone from RIM.
Enhancements in BlackBerry OS 5.0 include tabbed web browsing, flagged emails, and a greatly improved Maps application.
With this upgrade, the original Storm runs the same operating system version as the BlackBerry Storm2, which will be released on Wednesday.

Users of this Blackberry can update their smartphones to the new OS 5.0 software directly off RIM's website, through the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, or from Verizon Wireless' download site.
There is no charge for this system software upgrade.
A Quick Overview of the BlackBerry Storm
This is the first BlackBerry with a touchscreen, which is 3.25 inches and 360 by 480 pixels. This display takes the place of the keyboard typically found on RIM models.
The BlackBerry Storm is available now from Verizon Wireless, and was recently cut to $50 with a two-year contract.
This model has mobile broadband and Bluetooth, but not Wi-Fi. The upcoming Storm2 will include Wi-Fi, and a re-designed touchscreen.
