Recently, word leaked out of Motorola that it is working on a tablet version of the Droid. Now, more information on this upcoming Android-based device has leaked out, including several pictures.
Naturally, this model will have an obvious difference from the current one: it won't have the siding QWERTY keyboard. Instead users will do all their text entry with the on-screen keyboards that are part of Google's operating system.
But the differences won't stop there. According to an unconfirmed report coming out of Asia, this model will have a HDMI video-out port (shown here) with support for playing 720p high-definition video.
In addition, it will have a 8 MPx camera with Xenon flash (shown here).
Sholes vs. Sholes Tablet
This upcoming smartphone is supposedly code-named "Sholes Tablet" to show it is similar but different from the Motorola Droid, which was code-named the Sholes. Its shipping name is not yet known.
Like its predecessor, this device will have a 3.7-inch, WVGA+ (840 by 485 pixel) touchscreen, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
It will allegedly run Android 2.0 on an 800 MHz processor, though Android 2.1 may be out by the time this device ships.
Given its name, it's likely the Sholes Tablet will have many other features in common with the current model, like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a GPS receiver, accelerometer, etc.
Coming to T-Mobile USA?
The Motorola Droid is being offered by Verizon, and is therefore a CDMA/EV-DO phone. The Sholes Tablet, on the other hand, will be a GSM phone with HSDPA mobile broadband.
According to the information that leaked out of Motorola last month, this model is heading for T-Mobile USA. In addition, a version of the Droid is also coming to this carrier.
