Motorola Droid Getting Android 2.0.1 in the Near Future

Google has announced a small update for it's Android OS, and Motorola has promised this will be released for its flagship Motorola Droid in the next few weeks.

According to Google, "Android 2.0.1 is a minor platform release deployable to Android-powered handsets starting in December 2009." The description given backs up that this will definitely be a minor update. with just a few changes applicable only to developers.

Coming to the Droid
The version for the Droid will offer a bit more than the standard one. Motorola says that its version will have software that will help this smartphone's camera focus better. It should also improve voice reception.

Last month, a report leaking out Verizon promised a system software update for this device on Dec. 11.

Since its release early last month, the Droid has become the best-known phone running Google's operating system, at least partially because it has been heavily advertised by Verizon, its exclusive provider.

What about Android 2.1?
According to unconfirmed reports, Google is also working on Android 2.1, which is expected to be a slightly more significant but still fairly minor update.

This is supposedly scheduled to be released this month, but the promised release of v2.0.1 in the same time period suggests that v2.1 won't be released until next year.
