Motorola Droid Version Available for AT&T, T-Mobile

The Motorola Milestone is the GSM version of the Android flagship smartphone, the Motorola Droid. It was released in Europe, but a few U.S. retailers have this device.

The Milestone can be used with AT&T and T-Mobile, but there's a catch: it doesn't offer the wireless frequencies used by either of these carrier's 3G services. So while it can make phone calls and connect to the 2.5G service EDGE, there's no support for HSPA. Still, it offers Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth.

And just about all the other features are there, including the large, high-resolution screen, built-in keyboard, and the latest version of Google's Android OS.

However, it doesn't ship with the 16 GB memory card the Droid does.

Pricing... Brace Yourself
Because the Milestone isn't being sold through wireless carrier, the price isn't being subsidized. That means it's a more expensive that the Droid is when bought with a Verizon service contract.

eXpansys has one of the best prices: $700. The price on Amazon.com is a bit higher: $790.

A Quick Overview of the Motorola Milestone
The Motorola Milestone is a slider, with a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard and 3.7-inch, WVGA capacitive touchscreen with haptic feedback.

This smartphone has a suite of applications that can wirelessly synchronize with Google's services, including Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, and Maps, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

It comes with a microSD memory card slot, GPS receiver, and a 5 MPx camera.

Verizon Wireless is currently the exclusive U.S. provider of the Motorola Droid. However, a document that leaked out of Motorola indicates that it's going to be released by T-Mobile USA at some point.
