Apple Counter-sues Nokia for Patent Infringement

In October, Nokia filed a lawsuit against Apple, alleging that the iPhone infringes Nokia patents for cellular-wireless networking and Wi-Fi standards. Apple responded today with a countersuit claiming that Nokia is infringing some of its patents.

A statement from an Apple executive makes it clear that the gloves are off: "Other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies, not just by stealing ours." This came from Bruce Sewell, Apple’s General Counsel and senior vice president.

Apple's suit claims that Nokia devices infringe on 13 of its patents, while Nokia alleges that Apple's products infringe on 10 of its patents.

A hearing for these lawsuits has not yet been scheduled.
