Verizon May Be Getting the Palm Pre Plus

Information leaking out of Verizon Wireless indicates that this carrier will soon be offering an enhanced version of the Palm Pre. The unveiling of this new model could come as early as next month.

Verizon reportedly has a newly-added entry in its product database: the Palm Pre Plus. Unfortunately, this currently does not give a description of this upcoming model.

However, an unconfirmed report that surfaced several months ago claimed to have some details on Verizon's version of the Pre. According to this source, it will have a slightly larger screen than the current model, which has a 3.1-inch one.

In addition, it will supposedly have more built-in storage than the the original's 8 GB. This source even raised the possibility of a microSD card slot.

Coming Next Month?
Palm, Inc. has scheduled a press event for the Consumer Electronics Show in early January, and the Palm Pre Plus could be in the offing.

It's also possible that Verizon is going to announce its plans to offer a second webOS-based model, a version the Palm Pixi that will be the first with Wi-Fi.

An Overview of the Palm Pre and the webOS
The Palm Pre uses Palm's webOS, the replacement for the venerable Palm OS. This is a new, multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google, Yahoo, and Facebook, as well as Microsoft Exchange.

The webOS includes an on-device app store, and a growing collection of third-party software is available.

The Pre itself features a sliding keyboard as well as a multi-touch-capable touchscreen. This device is also equipped with Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, and a 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash.

In the United States, it's currently available exclusively from Sprint, and there are also versions being sold in Canada and Europe.
