The Motorola Droid has quickly become this company's flagship smartphone, and owners of this device probably feel confident that they'll be getting numerous system software upgrades in the coming months. That's why a comment from Motorola's CEO might make some of these people slightly nervous.
Sanjay Jha was at the official unveiling of Android 2.1 yesterday, and not surprisingly he was asked if the Droid would be getting an upgrade to this new version. His response was somewhat equivocal: he "thinks" this will happen.
It's possible Jha was simply being cautious, not wanting to commit to an operating system upgrade too soon.
Still, many would consider a stronger statement to be in order, considering that he was speaking at the launch of the Google Nexus One, a model that runs Android 2.1 and that has drawn so much attention in recent weeks.
What's New in Android 2.1?
The new version of Android offers features like more homescreens with animated backgrounds, as well as enhanced weather and news widgets.
It also has much greater support for speech-to-text, allowing users to enter text into any application with just their voice.
