Motorola's CEO has promised that the Motorola Cliq, a smartphone offered by T-Mobile USA, will be getting an upgrade to the latest version of Google's Android OS.
Sanjay Jha was speaking at a press event at the Consumer Electronics Show when he made this promise.
At this point, the Cliq is the only current Motorola model that will definitely be getting upgraded to Android 2.1. Jha made no mention of a similar upgrade for the Motorola Droid, this company's flagship smartphone.
The newly-announced Motorola Backflip will also be getting Android 2.1 at some point after this device is released.
Jha did not give a timetable for when either the Cliq or the Backflip will be getting their upgrades.
What's New in Android 2.1?
The new version of Android offers features like more homescreens with animated backgrounds, as well as enhanced weather and news widgets.
It also has much greater support for speech-to-text, allowing users to enter text into any application with just their voice.
Android 2.1 debuted on the Google Nexus One, which was released earlier this week.
