Palm has released an update for the system software on the European version of the Palm Pre. Among other changes, it adds the ability for this smartphone to act as a wireless modem for another computer via Bluetooth.
webOS 1.3.5.2 contains the improvements made in webOS 1.3.5.1, which was released in the U.S. last week, including a fix for a Exchange calendar bug.
Tethering
This feature isn't listed on the official changelog, but users in several European countries who have already received the latest system software update report that they can now tether their smartphone. So far, this feature appears to be available in Germany and Spain, but not the U.K.
It's not clear if those in the U.S. will get access to the feature. So far, Sprint has shown no interest in allowing Palm Pre or Pixi users to tether their devices. Verizon Wireless will soon begin offering versions of these smartphones, and these will come with Wi-Fi routing software.
A listing of changes in webOS 1.3.5.2 can be found on Palm's website.
Coming to a Palm Pre Near You
Palm has already begun pushing this update out to Palm Pre users in Europe over the air. Users will be notified when it arrives.
Those who wish can manually download it by going to the App Launcher and tapping on Updates.
