Although AT&T has yet to come out and say it, this carrier isn't trying very hard to conceal its plans to offer the Motorola Backflip.
This smartphone -- which has an unusual reverse-flip keyboard -- could be AT&T's first with Google's Android OS. It has promised to release a Motorola model with Android and "a unique form factor", and the Backflip fits the bill.
The release will coming on March 7, if an unconfirmed report is correct. This is in-line with Motorola's promise that the Backflip will be on the market in the first quarter of this year.
It will supposedly sell for $324, but it's not clear yet if this price includes subsidies and mail-in rebates.
An Overview of the Motorola Backflip
This device will have a landscape-oriented keyboard, but won't be a slider or clamshell. Instead, will have a reverse flip keyboard, so that when this model is closed its keyboard is on the back. This will allow it to set on a a table with its screen flipped up.
On the back of the 3.1-inch, HVGA screen will be another unique feature, a large touchpanel.
It will likely launch with Android 1.5, but but an upgrade to Android 2.1 is coming at some point.
It will have Motorola's Blur software, which gives easy access to consumer and business e-mail accounts, as well as social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter.
The Motorola Backflip will offer mobile broadband, and also include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
In addition, this smartphone will have a microSD memory card slot, 5 MPx camera, a GPS receiver, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
