Verizon will introduce several new wireless service plans next week, reducing prices for unlimited voice and text service. In addition, going forward, many mid-range phones will be required to get a data plan.
Starting Monday, customers can sign up for a new service plan that offers unlimited calls to anyone in the United States for $70 a month. Previously, this has cost $100 per month. Adding unlimited text, picture and video messages will bring the cost to $90 a month.
New family plans will start at $120 a month for unlimited calls in the U.S. for two phones. A family plan with unlimited voice and messaging $150.
Data Plans
Verizon Wireless has required customers getting a smartphone to sign up for an accompanying data plan for some time, and its now extending this to a range of other models.
With this move, any device that this carrier classifies as a Wireless 3G Multimedia phone will be required to get a $10 per month data package, which will give them 25 megabytes of wireless transfers.
This includes the LG enV TOUCH, the Samsung Rogue, the LG Chocolate Touch, LG enV3, LG VX8360, Motorola Entice W766, Nokia 7705 Twist, and Samsung Alias 2.
Those with a BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, or Android smartphone will continue to pay $30 per month for 5 GB of data transfers.
Just Going Forward
Today’s announcement will not have affect existing customer contracts, although customers may choose to move to any of the new plans.
Verizon allows customers to change their service plans at any time without penalty or contract extension.
