T-Mobile USA has just significantly dropped the prices on a wide array of smartphones, many of which debuted fairly recently. This includes the BlackBerry Bold 9700, HTC Touch Pro II, Motorola Cliq, and several more.
No reason was given for these price cuts, but they are likely intended to spur demand -- winter is often a slowest period for smartphone sales.
BlackBerry OS
This carrier has dropped the prices on two of its newest devices from RIM.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 was released in November at $200, but T-Mobile is now asking $130 for this high-end model. The Bold2, as it's sometimes called, is one of RIM's flagship devices.
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 came out last summer at $130, but is now going for $80. The latest entry in the popular Curve series has been redesigned and updated.
Android OS
T-Mobile USA offers a range of phones based on Google's Android OS last fall, and all of them have just dropped in price.
The Motorola Cliq debuted in October at $200 with a two-year service agreement, but today can be purchased for $150. It's a consumer-oriented model with a hardware keyboard.
The Samsung Behold II came out in November at $230 with two-year contract, but that price has been cut to $150 with contract. This model has been designed around a large AM-OLED touchscreen.
The T-Mobile myTouch 3G debuted last summer at $200 with a two-year service agreement, but is now going for $150.
The venerable T-Mobile G1, the first Android-based model to be released in the world, has been cut to $100, but is still in this carrier's lineup, even if it's over a year old.
Windows Mobile
The high-end HTC Touch Pro2 debuted from T-Mobile last summer at $350. Several months later, this has dropped to $270. This device is also available from all of this carrier's biggest rivals, but T-Mobile now has the lowest price for it.
The Touch Pro2 offers a WVGA screen, siding keyboard, mobile broadband, Wi-Fi, GPS, and much more.
Contract Required
All the prices given above require the customer to sign a two-year service contract. Without this, the cost for these models is significantly higher.
