More evidence has emerged that Google is going to release a version of the Nexus One that will offer full support for AT&T's wireless network.
The version of this very high-end Android OS-based smartphone that's available now fully supports only T-Mobile's voice and data network. Versions for Verizon and Vodafone have been promised, but that's it.
However, the online phone retailer Wirefly has put up a "teaser" page for the Nexus One, including an extensive set of specifications. According to this, there will be a version with tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900/2100 MHz). These are the wireless frequencies and standards used by AT&T's 3G network.
But there's a problem: this page does not list the wireless frequencies used by the T-Mobile version that's already available. This raises the possibility that the AT&T frequencies are a typo, and whoever put in the data simply picked the wrong option, as T-Mobile's and AT&T's requirements are very similar.
Still, there was a unconfirmed report earlier this month that a version of the Nexus One for A&T is being created. When this version will be released -- if it's real -- is not yet known.
This smartphone will be available from Verizon Wireless and Vodafone this spring.
An Overview of the Google Nexus One
This smartphone is the first to be released by Google under its own brand name, and it offers a number of high-end features.
It has a tablet shape with a 3.7-inch, WVGA, AM-OLED display and a trackball.
The Nexus One runs Android OS 2.1 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, making it the first to offer this combination.
It has 512 MB RAM, and this device comes with a 4 GB microSD card. Users have the option to expand this up to 32 GB.
At this point, it is available only from T-Mobile USA, but will be released by Verizon Wireless and Vodafone in the spring.
It supports T-Mobile's 3G service, and also Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with stereo support.
Other features include a 5 MPx camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 3.5 mm headset jack, a GPS receiver, accelerometer, and digital compass.
