T-Mobile will soon add a third Android OS phone with a sliding keyboard and HVGA touchscreen to its product lineup, if unconfirmed reports are correct.
It's not clear yet what the name for this model will be -- some reports call it the myTouch Slide, while others refer to it as the myTouch2.
The original T-Mobile myTouch 3G debuted last year, and has a tablet shape with an HVGA touchscreen. Leaked information, including some new pictures, indicate that the upcoming model will have a few things in common with its predecessor, but plenty of differences, too.
Images of this upcoming smartphone show that the styling won't be much like it's predecessor's, aside from rounded corners. Still, both were apparently designed by HTC.
As one of its possible names suggests, this upcoming phone will be a "slider", with a 4-row QWERTY keyboard that can be hidden behind its HVGA (320 by 480 pixel) touchscreen. Next to the display will be a trackpad.
A Google Phone
Like the current one, the next-generation myTouch model will run Google's Android OS. This means it will have strong ties to this company's online services for email, calendar, navigation, and more.
However, the Google logo does not appear on the phone, so apparently it won't have the "Google Experience". This means that it will use HTC Sense, this company's alternate user interface that expands on Google's standard one.
This smartphone will almost certainly have support for T-Mobile's 3G network, and a camera with LED flash, though the resolution of this is not yet known.
In addition, unconfirmed reports say the myTouch Slide will also include an externally accessible microSD memory card slot and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
The End of the G1?
It is not known when this new model will be released, but it will likely be the replacement for the T-Mobile G1, the original Android OS-based smartphone which has been on the market for well over a year now.
If so, this second myTouch device will likely cost less than $200 at its debut.
