Next iPhone May Have a Slightly Larger Screen

A mobile phone repair company claims to have gotten a hold of the display that will be used in the next-generation Apple iPhone. Leaked pictures show that this will be bigger than the current one,

iResQ has posted a pair of images of this screen, which this company says was sent to it by a trusted source.

The pictures show a comparison between the current iPhone 3GS display and the new one -- the next-generation display is about a quarter of an inch longer. This could mean that Apple is switching from the 3.5-inch touchscreens it has been using for years to 3.7-inch screens.

Higher Resolution?
The source for the images did not say if the resolution for this new display is different from the current one.

All iPhones until now have used a single resolution: HVGA (320 by 480 pixels). As Apple's top competitors regularly offer smartphones with WVGA (800 by 480 pixels) screens, many have been wondering if the next-generation iPhone will move up to a higher resolution.

iPhone 4G: What the Rumors Say
Apple has generally been very good at preventing solid information about its products from leaking out well ahead of their unveiling, but that hasn't stopped the rumors from flying around the Web. However, as the next-generation iPhone isn't expected to be announced for months, all of these are questionable.

A frequently-heard report is that that Verizon Wireless and possibly other carriers will get the iPhone this summer, ending AT&T's long-held role as exclusive U.S. provider of this smartphone.

It's possible the fourth-generation model will have twice the storage capacity of the current one: 64 GB.
