Motorola Devour Could Launch on March 15... and Maybe Before

When Verizon announced plans to release the Motorola Devour, it was a bit vague on exactly when this is going to happen, but according to a document that has leaked out of this wireless carrier, the debut of this Android OS-based smartphone will be in mid-March.

Some customers may be able to get their hands on this device before then, though. It will supposedly be available "in the Indirect Channel via Authorized Distributors" on February 25. No other details are available at this time, but Verizon could be planning an early launch of this model with one of its retail parters.

And the Price Is...
This leaked document does not reveal one of the last remaining questions: what the price for the Devour will be.

However, separate unconfirmed reports indicate that it will sell for $99 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate.

This will make it a less expsive option than the Motorola Droid for those who want an Android-based smartphone with a keyboard.

An Overview of the Motorola Devour
The Devour will be a slider, with a 3.1-inch, HVGA (320 by 480 pixel) capacitive Touchscreen that can slide aside to reveal a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard. Next to the display will be a trackpad.

This model will debut with Android OS 1.6, and have the standard suite of software for connecting to Google services, like Gmail and YouTube. User will also be able to pick from over 20,000 third-party apps.

In addition, the Devour will be the first Verizon model with MotoBlur, Motorola's software that brings together messages from a range of social-networking services like Facebook and Twitter, text messages, as well as consumer and business e-mail accounts, into a universal inbox.

Naturally, it will come with software for playing music and video, and this model will be bundled with an 8 GB microSD memory card for storing thousands of files.

This phone will be able to access Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A mobile broad-band network, and also sport Wi-Fi b/g and Stereo Bluetooth. Other features will include a 3.0 MPx camera and a GPS receiver.
