Samsung Wave Will Be the First Smartphone with the bada OS

Intentionally or not, Samsung has given the world a glimpse of the first smartphone running its bada operating system. A billboard near the site for next week's Mobile World Congress tradeshow clearly displays the Samsung Wave, and makes no secret that it will run the bada OS.

bada was unveiled in December, and can be thought of as Samsung's TouchWiz User Interface made into an operating system.

The first device running it will apparently be the Samsung Wave, as evidenced by the billboard up now in Barcelona.

The official announcement of this model will almost certainly be in the next day or so.

An Unofficial Spec Sheet
The Samsung Wave is not yet official, but a great deal of information about it has already leaked out.

Its highlight may be its 3.3-inch, WVGA (800 by 480 pixel) capacitive touchscreen, as this could be the first Super AM-OLED display, a new type which is said to provide better visibility in sunlight, a major drawback to current AM-OLED screens.

Unconfirmed reports also say it will be based on a 1 GHz processor, and have 2 GB of internal storage plus a microSD memory card slot.

The Wave -- AKA the S8500 -- will supposedly have a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p video recording.

This device will reportedly be a GSM phone with 3G mobile broadband, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Other features will allegedly include a 1,500 mAh battery and an aluminum body.

Launch Date?
Although the Samsung Wave is expected to be officially unveiled this week, it's not yet known when the launch will be.

The MWC is one of the biggest tradeshows of the year, and it's not unusual for companies to use it to show off products that won't be on the market for many months.
