Toshiba TG02 and K01 Will Offer Large High-Res Screens, a Choice of Designs

Toshiba has just announced two Windows phones which have much in common -- 4.1 inch WVGA touchscreens and 1 GHz Snapdragon processors -- but use different designs. The Toshiba TG02 will have a tablet shape, while the K01 will be a slider.

The TG02 is an updated version of last year's TG01, and like its predecessor has a slim design -- 9.9 mm thick -- with a large display and a fast processor.

The new version will make a change to a capacitive screen, and Toshiba has developed a new 3D user interface for it.

The K01 is very similar to the TG02, but adds a sliding keyboard. It will also be Toshiba's first smartphone with an AM-OLED screen. It will be slightly thicker than its sister model: 12.9 mm.

The TG02 will debut with Windows Mobile 6.5, but Toshiba hasn't said yet what version of this operating system the K01 will be based on.

Both these models will have microSD memory card slots, giving them a potential storage capacity of 32 GB.

Although Toshiba announced the TG02 and K01 today, it did not say when these new Windows phones will be released, nor what they will sell for.

This company was also light on details, so many of the specifications of these devices are not yet known.

This announcement came at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow, which is going on now in Barcelona.
