» News » HTC Shrinks the HTC HD2, Makes the HD mini
The HTC HD2 is one of the most eagerly sought-after Windows phones available. Today, its maker has announced plans to release a smartphone that will have almost all the same features, but in a smaller package.
The HTC HD mini is roughly the size of the original HTC Touch, so naturally there's no room for the HD2's 4.3-inch, WVGA display. That's why it is going to have a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive Touchscreen instead.
In addition, the upcoming model will have a 600 MHz processor, not the 1 GHz one in its big brother. And it won't have an LED flash, either.
Other than these changes, though, the HD mini will match the HD2 feature-for-feature.
It will have Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC's proprietary user interface layered on top. Like all Windows phones, it will come with a suite of communications, entertainment, and productivity software.
The HD mini will include 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. It is also going to have a 5 MPx camera, microSD memory card slot, GPS, and much more.
This smartphone is also going to include the mobile hotspot software that debuted in the HD2.
"The demand for the HTC HD2 has exceeded our expectations, and the HTC HD mini fulfills a desire from some customers to bring the capabilities and experience of the HTC HD2 to a more compact design," said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation.
Pricing & Availability
HTC has not yet announced what the HD mini is going to sell for, but did promise that it will cost less than the HTC HD2.
It is going to debut in Europe and Asia in April. When it will be available in other regions is not yet known.
This announcement took place at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow, going on now in Barcelona.
