Kindle for BlackBerry Brings Amazon's E-Book Store to Millions More Smartphone Users

Amazon.com has just introduced a beta version of Kindle for BlackBerry, a free application that lets customers shop for and read e-books from this online retailer's collection. It gives smartphones many of the features of the Kindle eReader.

This app lets users choose from among 420,000 books, including 102 of 112 New York Times Bestsellers. These e-books can be purchased and downloaded directly to the BlackBerry. 

It has been designed to work in conjunction with the dedicated Kindle eReader, automatically synchronizing the user's bookmarks so they always have their reading material with them and can pick up reading where they left off.

Unlike the Kindle eReader, which has a monochrome display, the BlackBerry version lets users read books in full color, including children’s books, cookbooks, travel books, textbooks, and graphic novels.

Availability
Kindle for BlackBerry is free, and can be downloaded now at www.amazon.com/kindlebb. This application is still a beta -- a full version is expected in the coming months.

It runs on the original BlackBerry Bold and the newer Bold 9700, the original BlackBerry Storm and the newer Storm 9550, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and 8900, as well as the BlackBerry Tour 9630.

There is also a version of this app for the iPhone and iPod touch.
